Using genetics to understand and find treatments for Parkinson’s

Date: Friday 23 April 2021
From: 10:15 am – 11:30 am

Type of Event: Webinar

Professor Mina Ryten will explain what genes can tell us about the causes of Parkinson’s. Although most cases of Parkinson’s have no known cause, some, particularly early on-set forms, can be linked to a specific gene. We now know of over 90 genes that have been identified as risk factors for Parkinson’s. Collectively they provide clues about the biological mechanisms underlying the disease. This field provides an excellent example of how “omic” sciences are revolutionising the way in which researchers are collaborating globally to find a cure.
